The Research Cyberinfrastructure (RCI) Center serves as a focal point and service center for accessing, providing, coordinating and enhancing research Information Technology facilities and services at UCI. The RCIC was created in response to the recommendations of the 2015/16 UCI RCI Vision Workgroup.
The RCIC Advisory serves in the capacity of the “Faculty Panel” described in the UCI RCI Vision Statement. It comprises faculty across disciplines, as well as representatives from the UCI Libraries, the Office of Information Technology, the RCIC, and other areas. The committee provides direction, helps set service priorities, and provides other input on RCI services and plans. The RCIC Executive Committee, a subset of the Advisory Committee, meets more frequently in support of the RCIC and directions from the larger group. The membership of both committees can be found here.
Establishment of the RCI Center represents a major step in the evolution of research computing, networking and information management at UCI. We will keep you informed of progress as the initiative moves forward. Meanwhile, we invite any immediate feedback you have in response to the RCI Vision document (PDF) or RCI needs in general through email to RCI@UCI.EDU.
What is RCI?
RCI is a term adopted by the National Science Foundation and others to reflect the range of information and computing capabilities and expertise used in support of research. Computational and data-enabled science is key to modern research and scholarship. National attention to the topic continues to grow; as an example, the National Academies recently published a report of recommendations to the NSF on advanced computing infrastructure.
